Some boats give a free charter if the fish is market size and sell the fish. Maybe the captain didn't want to deal with the sale and giving the money back.
I really would not have shut up the entire ride home. I'd be sure to make it very unpleasant for him...

I'm 99.9% sure they can. Why wouldn't they be able to sell it?

I'm pretty sure they can't, however the captain certainly can.

sorry, I read that wrong... I thoght you meant the charter captain couldn't sell it. If the people on the charter had the licence, I don't know why they wouldn't be able to sell it.

As far as I know, individuals cannot get HMS permits, they are specifically boat dependent. However, I guess if someone with a comm permit on their boat was to catch a GBFT on a charter, they could sell it, but I have to assume that is a very rare circumstance, and it is certainly a grey area.... Why would someone with a boat and a comm permit be paying for a charter anyway?
[edit: mako mike slipped in on me... that is what i figgured.]

back to the topic of the post, Mike, have you ever heard of a Captain taking the rod from a charter saying that the fight with a Giant is 'taking too long?' Seems like a fishy story to me.... You would think the capt would want to do everything to catch the fish for the noteriety/picture op/report ink/etc...
