it's not uncommon when a big $$ giant is on the line. for the capt/mate to boot the customer out of the way and jump on the rod.
the fish is landed,the charter is over,and the boat heads in.

either charter money is refunded or the next trip is free.
$1,000 charter,,,or $5,000+ fish

some boats will split the procedes of the sale.
