I don't like the full moon at all, even with cloud cover. Not that you can't catch under a full moon, just that the odds against you are increased signicantly.
Reality is the real problem right now is a lot of areas don't have any bait and that's why the fishing is horrible, much more so then the moon.

I thought u where goin to montauk.
U said urself that a early fall in Newport can lead to a dismal run.

I went out after lathering on sunblock . Hit the Canal for the start of the east around 4-ish. I had one hit on a jig, hooked it briefly and promptly dropped it. After sun-up, the surface action that's been pretty consistent all week never happened
Even the Canal suffers from the effects of a spotlight like that in the sky.

I don't let the moon bother me.
Especially in june an sept/oct.
i just don't like excuses.
there are some good points u can certainly see better.Fire is not as bad.I have always found fish move on the moon.this can be good also..Sure they can be tougher to hook but i live in nj they are all tough to hook.U just gotta go back to the basic's..

Mike P - I was down the canal also this morning. Two decent fish for me between 4-5am and then from 5-7am, fish on top were the norm. For as far as my eyes could see (east/west) and across, I saw fish breaking. These were smaller fish in the 22-26" range. I was more towards the eastern half on the canal. I also only used jigs and had a very hard time holding bottom with 5oz.

Didn't fish last night but I had 5 fish in the 34" to 36" range yesterday morning. In SoCo where there was enough bait to walk on.
Pete, you are on the wrong side of the bay if there's no bait.

Last night from 8 - midnight on Joppa/Merrimack. Moon was behind the clouds and the water was glass. Couldn't find quality so I settled for quantity. About 30 fish but all 18" - 22".

Well I was able to get out today for the first time this season!!
Went out Green Pond Falmouth, fished for Fluke, Sea Bass, Scup, Bass, Blues.
It was a crap day!! No Bass (got there to late) very few Fluke Sea Bass Scup, but we had a great day and brought home a dinner for each of us!

Yeah, the mullet run is on. Actually a week early as my logs show Sept 15 or so for the last 5 or 6 years.

I am holding off a little on bass until the water temp starts to move down just a tad.. cold water is close...was offshore last week and ran thru 54 deg water (really!) , had to put a coat on.
Thursday was perhaps the nicest day weatherwise of the year. Took a boat ride to visit the waters around the Grey Lady. Wow is this place choked up with bait. Big bluefish so thick munching on small butterfish, my boat is a mess with what was up-chucked. What a day! After a while I just took the hooks off and and just annoyed them. The water is so clear you see them in the rips, like soldiers on a mission. Everytime I fish Nantucket I am amazed at all the rips they have around that island. And there are fish at each of them. Just an amazing place. A different species on every shore. I'll be back again shortly.
