It seems that once again it is early Sept. and the bass have become scarce. Over the years I have noticed that in the first 2 weeks of Sept . they seem to "go away". Then the fishing picks up in the second half of the month ,peaking here in Newport ,during the first 2 weeks in Oct. Some say that the local resident fish have moved out of their "summer spots" and have begun the migration.Later in the month ,when the fishing picks up again ,it is fish moving down the coast from the north that we catch . Another theory I have heard is that in early Sept . the fish are "staging" or grouping up to begin the migration.

I figure each fishers personal experience is going to be different from north to south and the ditch is its own world . Most my personal experience is Mass north of the canal on the outside.. not really a bay fisher. I also share your first 2 weeks in Sept lull,, 3rd week they're pushing bait tight to shore and its hot right thru the end of Oct.
