MAC - I can't believe I'm seeing this but I can only come to a few possible realizations:

1) You actually are serious - I hope not, because the stuff you do is incredible and I really enjoy seeing over the past few years the standards you've set in building and sharing with people. Just simply great stuff. So if this is not some wierd prank, thank you for what you've done over the past few years.

2) This is some clever plan to upgrade the entire shop

3) You are inheriting Capesam's Basement

4) You are getting into jig making

5) This is truly some joke


Seriously, if this is what you want to do, good luck. Personally I'll be a bit saddened if you hang up your lathe.

Yes, I started in Feb of 2003 if I remember right. I never pretended to have been doing it longer. And it is like a drug. If you have never done it, you wouldn't understand. It totally took over my life. (I have small trees growing out of the gutters on the house). I haven't cut a cord of wood (even though I own 4 chainsaws) in those 4 winters either. By next spring I won't need to worry about scraping the house as all the paint will have fallen off. I do know one of my faults is an excessive, compulsive personality. Cold turkey is the only way. It's like cocaine back in the 80's, very addictive. I never touched or tried it though. Because I knew I would have liked it and watched too many friends lives go down the crapper. So lets just drop this "trying to talk me down from the ledge" . My mind is made up and it won't change. family and other parts of my life are more important than spinning wood or catching fish. (no I am not giving up fishing)

As far as the excessive compulsiveness goes, it creeps up on you. Before 2000 I couldn't turn on a computer. (I am still computer illiterate) Was I catching fish before that, yes. My grandfather started me fishing back in the 60's and I've never given up on it. I worked tuna fishing commercially back in the 80s for a while too. But fishing is just a hobby and not my life. Stripers are just fish, not some (holy grail). Read some of the posts on the various fishing sites and you'll see how a lot of people think differently on this. Some are fanatical and some see it just as a way to spend some quality time.

i have just one of your plugs that i will cherish and i will
fish it as it was meant to be fished.

I would have prefered that you wrote a highly illustrated
book on plug making and got rich than to go cold turkey
but i can understand your dilema.... after your description.

I have read every post you did on plug making and i have
learned many things from them and your posted pictures.

i thank you and salute you and your craftsmanship.

Bravo Mac.... you have set some new standards that will
carry on for generations to come.

I know the OCD thing myself, I am guilty of it with fishing and letting family and other things slide..I gave up for a couple years because I just cant be a weekend warrior its either Go anytime I want or not go at all....Sometimes I swear its going to kill me, I simply think about fishing 24/7 or talk about it etc...Every single thing in my life revolves around fishing.

Just the other day Clammer ask'd me if there was anything else in my life that makes me happy....I cant think of anything....

Anyway I am rambling, I just know where your coming from and respect you for realizing it and trying to make the change.....Congrats and go smell the roses...Sometimes I think the biggest mistake in my life was picking up a fishing rod................
