Herring
Got to get my freshwater license too. A freshwater license is required to take herring from the runs in RI. I find that odd cause you can snag the same herring from outside the run without a license. Anyway , that's the rules.
My keep Alive Live Bait keeper works great. Mike T at www.capecodtackle.com sells them. They pump air and water so the water gets super airated without killing the battery too quick. Last year I kept 2 dozen alive for several days , no problem.

Saltheart...roughly how much $ did that thing go for and how many GPH does it pump out? My homemade one just isn't cutting it. Keeping herring alive for two days in a live well...that is one good system!

GaryK, I also need a better pump for the boat .I was hopping there would be some setups at the Mass show. otherwise I keep them in rounded cages in the saltwater, or use my home made tank in the yard and just use the gardenhose. I have a friend whose an OLD timer and he uses a little kids swimming pool with the garden hose we dont lose many useless we took to many or they got beat up , good luck

Hi Gary . Go to Mike T's www.capecodtackle.com/ he has the whole unit including the tank for $135. Thats the best price I've seen. He also sells the recirculating pump alone if you think your tank is OK. The big thing is that is just recirculates the water and mixes in air through an air tube. Because it doesn't have to pump the water up above the surface , it can pump a lot of water around. You adjust a valve to get a very fine mix of the air from the air tube. Like Champagne bubbles. You get about ten times more air in there and the battery lasts longer since the pump isn't working hard to raise the water above the tank surface. There's a little filter around the pump you can pull off and cleanperiodically. If you don't overload it or let the filter clog with scales , they should stay alive as long as the battery is charged. For a few days , you'll need to take out some of the pissy water and add some fresh every now and then.

Those runs should start filling up later this month . Sure sign of good things to come.
I need to get my tank together too. I'll need to see how it is. Saltheart, do you recall of he sells the pump seperately??
