Thanks to all who fished hard for the Newport Club. Thanks to all anglers for supporting the tourney.

Don't get me wrong I was in no way questioning it's size... NICE fish indeed! Just saying it looks small in the pics.

Agree. I didn't think it was over 30 either. Photo doesn't do it justice. It was a very fat 44" fish. Bill and Dennis both saw it. Loaded with squid. Kevin

He's also a tall dude and neglected to manufacture a fisherman's image by holding it with extended arms....

Kevin - are you THAT Kevin? Nice fish. Congrats for finding one when there were slim pickings during the tourney.

There has been lots of discussion about using the Weakapaug Tackle Shop as the only weighin station. I was on the committee but we met last winter and I cannot for the life of me remember why we didn't have Wildwood or someone else.
I also am an advocate of a 24 hour weigh in. Doesn't seem like such a great inconvenience to stay open all night. I'm certain there would be sales of eels and tackle made.
I had someone call me yesterday and suggest that we have several tackle shops as weigh in site. With the proliferation of cell phones a code system could be set up so the Tackle shops have a special code and could call in a verified weight of a fish. It could later be certified or whatever. Also since this is almost 2007, how about using the computer? Take a picture at the tackle shop, upload it with the weight and, again with a special code to prevent fraud, send it to the primary weigh in spot.
Hopefully I will be back in the surf next year and fish this most worthy cause.

No boat, back in the suds.

I love deception! One of my favorite parts of this game.

Yes we need a few more weigh stations and an expansion of areas to fish. Why cram 11 clubs worth of fishermen between Naps and Narrow River? Weather conditions then further jams them together. Looked like Montauk a few times this weekend. Open it up and let us spread out. It's for a good cause after all is said and done. Shouldn't be too big a deal.
