Ya i have always wanted to but I leave in 5 days and got 5 finals to take before hand, so we will see. The weirdest thing about that memorial is that it attracts 1000's of japanese tourists. Don't they feel a little guilty or out of place???

Could be Forgiveness. Its part of their History too.

I've been to the memorial and you're right; it's an extremely moving experience. Sends a chill up your spine when you think about what happened there. The Punchbowl National Cemetary of the Pacific is also on the list of must visit places when you go there. I also had the opportunity to tour The Air Base when I was there as my brother was stationed there at the time of my visit. Many of the building that are used on a daily basis are still riddled with bullet holes. They were left that way as a reminder of what happened.
Very chilling and moving when you think about all the lives that were lost in such a short time span.
Max. Definately try to visit before you leave.

I understand that oil still leaks up from the Arizona? Many men are forever entombed in her hull Max....not sure if you knew that? Over 1000 I believe still entombed below and on the active duty list I believe?

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Ya I think I remember hearing something like that during history class. It is very sad and I have so much respect for the people that were defending our country at the time and lost their lives. I wish I could get to the memorial and if I have some free time to do so I'm gunna try.

They should not feel guilty or out of place! If they are there it is out of a sense of loyalty, obligation or respect! Perhaps they lost a family member there in the battle? That was an act of War......you are required to do some pretty terrible things in War and the flyers who were on that mission had their orders. Many of the Japanese flyers have reconciled with many of the American veterans who were there that morning. They have met, shaken hands and broke bread together. Days like this are for forgiving and remembering. I have great admiration for those who stood out there on that morning in defense of our country and I can not begin to fathom what it must be like to face something like that!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!
