ooooooooh, right up my alley, QD. For all purpose, the 229. Its about the same size as an abu 7000, but the newell is a real man's reel, no levelwind.

Numbskull uses one all the time. I love it because I can hear where he is in the pitch dark. Newells have a real distinctive sound. WHRRRRRR!!!!!!

Tough reels.

You failed to mention that on the retrieve it sounds like a coffe grinder, at least mine do. I love them though.

A P220 or P229. I like the 229 the best, especially if using mono.

I like the 235 for 30lb mono and big tackle, the 229 for 20-25 mono. I don't like them with braid (saw through my thumb).

I love my Newells.Much better than a squidder IMO.
Go the fast retrieve route.

I was thinking about a squidder because of price, but the newell have a faster retreive, plus they will cast further so I hear. I am not sure if the Newell should be my first conventional.

thats why they call it fishing not catching
