Funny thing about Canal rocks ....
There used to be a certain Canal fisherman who was far and above the rest of his colleagues.
Red Top used to have a weekly Canal fishing contest. Since this individual won it so often they finally did away with it. As he got older his legs were wracked with arthritis. His upper body however, was strong. He used to muscle flat rocks into good locations so he could sit on them as he cast and retrieved his beloved Cap'n Bill swimmers.
It became a local joke among Canal anglers to 'look for the flat rocks', since they signified his choice locations.
When he passed away his coffin was surrounded in a sea of flowers that were arranged in such a way to form a giant striped bass.
Anybody know his name??
Ever find any of his flat rocks??

Fishpart, that particular one was mahogany and thru wired. The best wood may be maple or birch in my opinion. But I'm just getting started with this hobby. That needle has tubebraid on it and that stuff is big $
The finish is epoxy

I wasn't able to get Alaskan cedar so I got some mahogany and cedar dowels. That is tubebraid , it looks awesome in person. It has enough wieght to float with the tip up slightly.
I caught a fish at Watch Hill Sat. night on my first cast with it. Habs says I should retire it now. I can make more.

BM and Slip that is some nice work. I went out last night looking for a lathe. The minis at Wood workers were 300 and up. Slip how do you like rigid tools. The reason I am asking is I can get a full size for about 300 at home depot, then I can do pool cues and shafts also. My buddy works at Home depot and he may happen to find an "open box discounted one" if ya know what I mean.
John this place is getting popular. It might be nice to do it like you said.
Tatoo those are some nice plugs. If we start a plug building forum you guys might have to run a work shop somewhere.

OK fellas, you guys just wait till I get home and post the new batch of needles! You aint seen nothin yet!
I would be happy to be the "leader / mentor" if I was nominated by the group.
I don't know that much, but I try....
Slip, that needle was the one you LOST right ?
BM, I know, I know, Darters! You need blank stubbies? Pay for the dowels and I'll make 'em. A dowel costs 2 bucks and I can get about 6 out of it. Labor is free. ...as long as you save me a seat next Slip in the back of the skunk moblie....

Snakes huh? Maybe you could try out a "prototype" eel skin swimmer?
I haven't built one so it would really be a prototype.

When he says he bought 70 pink bombers he aint fibbin. It was really hard to see what was in there, some many reels, rubba things, and eye balls looking at you it was hard to focus.
It kind of looked like a rainbow, all kinds of pretty colors.

I agree Charlie, the only thing I have noticed is that LARGER plugs work better in certain areas than others. Like the canal, the bigger the better. Actually the whole cape for that matter.
Enough of a difference from one state to the next will keep you guessing. The guy who can figure it out in all states gets the stripe.
Patrick, you only fish once a year?
Charlie, tell them how hard it is to get plugs outta me...
