Question OTW Striper Cup

Did you sign up?

I have been fretting in my mind, I don't think I am going to this year. The boat guys (especially who fish commercial) have the definite edge and the clubs have the edge over the lone eagles like myself.

Surf fishing on the Cape hasn't been productive enough to produce a lot of really big fish and killing 30 pounders for a pin is a personal line I won't cross ( then I have to get rid of the thing cause big bass don't really make my mouth water)

The sutf guys in Rhode Island are still in the game as that seems to be the end of the road for the big girls coming north (they got real pogies lucky dawgs)

And lastly I couldn't afford the gas for the Tundra ( gas pigs in cyl) and I couldn't afford to run the boat either.

Dilemma. I had the form and pen in hand at the MSBA show but couldn't pull the trigger. Maybe in the future but this year I am out of it
( not that that matters much anyway)

Why even try.........

They do have release pins for this year. Not that pins are that big a deal to me, but if you want a few for your hat, you don't have to kill a fish.

The way I look at it is, I'm going to fish anyway. If I happen to get a decent fish, I can weigh it on a Manley, take a quick measurement and submit it for a pounder release pin. If not, the Harpoon-fest is a pretty good time. It's worth the $25 to me.

I agree with Mike, and as soon as I have some extra cash I am signing up. Plus I have a chance to win a sweet boat.

Every year is different and the fish could show on the cape, I always hope anyway.

Same here - we're in... Flap - you of all should know that its almost a roll of the dice when and where the fish will show in any give year. While Rhody may have relatively done well a bunch of good anglers were kicking and screaming. Who knows where the fish will move on any given year. You might C&R a bunch up there.

I'm in. Flap, there's a C&R clause in the rules this year for pins only.

I know its a tough situation but I thought they'd do something about comm guys. OTW being a sport fishing magazine and knowing comm. plays a huge part in the percentage of bass and integrity of the tournament. It should be a repeat of last year if the same anglers enter. Me believing that, I still plan on entering. Its only 25$ and I spend most of the time wishing for bigger fish anyway. to each his own but I'm not in it for those 30# fish pins there just to dam heavy, I hear the 50's and 60's are lighter.

I'm in again. As stated in earlier thread, it motivates me to fish more. And don't equate this with kill more. Plus the party at Harpoon is fun.

I thought I read that they have a separate shore division this year for the monthly prizes and a chance at the grand prize

If that's the case, you're really not competing against the commercials, since 99.9% of them are boat fishing.

You may be in the club division, but I thought that you also got an additional .5 points per pound for a shore fish. So, your club gets 45 points for your shore 30--did I read that right or am I totally off base??

I probably wont.
If I have a big fish, great, I'll enter it in local clubs.
OTW is making strides towards getting it better. Maybe some day, but I dont need more incentive to fish, I'm out there anyways!

Me too. Could personally give a damn about the pins, but I like the idea of maybe shagging a monthly/weekly/annual prize. Plus its the competition that makes it fun. S-B has enough capable anglers to give it a good run with the new points format, so get off your butts and sign up if you're thinking about it. No excuses.

Nib Slapped

I think that Nib has come up with a serious challenge to Flaptails decision not to enter the S C Tourney.

While I think Flaptails reasoning is heartwarming I find it difficult to believe that the Nib slapped comment will go unnoticed.

Sure - send a check to me for ....

Nope - just when you sign up put Striped-Bass.com under the team name. Shortly I throw up a thread with a list of S-B'ers doing the Cup. Where are you from? That has to do with tackle / weigh in shops...

Thanks!

John

You declare Shore or Boat when you register and what Club, If any, You are affiliated with.

There is a Monthly Shore and a Monthly Boat winner for a total of 10 winners in the drawing for the Tundra.

Shore fish will be awarded 1.3 points per pound for for any fish entered for the Club Standings. If you catch a 30 lb'er you would receive 39 points for it.

Hope this helps
