I remember seeing that story and the guy on the today-show a while ago..... Very Smart Guy with the sea bird lure and all,,
i see a picture of his Boat-- it was an older sailboat,,, i wouldn't see why he would care to save it---but then i seen it was his home and he loved THAT boat..... Oh well,,, Hope he gets another one (this time with a Good GPS & VHF radio (lol)
BUT--i have to say,,, that must of been one hell of a sea-worthy boat to go thru all that!
It was VERY beat up when they found him,,,but was still afloat ,, The uscg ship could of quick-Patched it, Added a few Bilge/cabin water Pumps
added a couple of 100' of tow line and bring it back ashore to fix it and saved it, so he could still have a home,,The CG has that Technology and Experience ,But,,,they just didn't feel like it...
Oh well,
I included a Picture of the 'Sea-Breeze' only 26' out there in that open ocean,,,strong boat...
