The angle is adjustable. Put the index on the chuck at 115 degrees not 135. Big difference. I was doing the same thing with my first tries.Then I read the instruction book . Now I get razor sharp bits every time.

Yes 118 degrees for softer regular drilling and 135 for the hard stuff like steels and such.
