In my experience, we do not see the first big fish until the first week in June, although I did get my first keeper on Maay 31st last year. So if I was you I would take the last coupla days of May and the first few days of June

Now some guys are gonna chime in here and claim they are catching large in mid-May but I that has not happened for me where I fish.

I am planing on taking Fridays off in June and September...

I fish the Merrimac River area. Good mackerel should be around at that time and stripers should be in the mouth of the river. You may need a boat for the mackerel. I typically run out early in the morning and load up on mackerel and then fish them in the mouth of the river.
