Cuttin' Back on Fishing b/c of Gas Prices?
Time for the annual gasoline-fishing poll.
Just thought I'd ask. Last year most of you said your fishing wouldn't change.
I know mine did and will be.
No more overnight commando raids to the Cape for me for a while.

Definitely going to have to cut back a bit – hopefully not in amount of time spent fishing but I will make some changes in the ways I’m fishing.
More surf casting and yak trips less time out on the boat. When I am on the boat I’ll probably do less running around and fish spots closer to the launch. Might also try and find some fishing partners to share expenses…
Thankfully the stripers are in the rivers now and I can walk to spots to catch them. By June I’ll be driving 200 miles (round trip) to fish

Not changing the way I fish because of the gas prices. In the broad scheme of things 2- gas per gallon versus 3- gallon is only 25- a person on 50 gallons for all day fun. Bronko I am definitely taking the boat out Saturday.

Were not cutting back at all. All our boats are very fuel efficient. We could do an overnight canyon trip from falmouth for $100 in gas.

Probably won't cut back on the amount of time I fish, but I will not be fishing the distant spots as much as I usually do. I took a couple of offshore trips last year with my wife and 3 kids, ( no splitting a fuel bill there), not sure that will be in the budget this year.

If it gets too bad, I'll just stick to the east end and not fish the west end as much

Not an issue for me. I live 5-10minutes away from many good shore spots and this year I have a small 16' skiff with a 15hp 4 stroke that will actually add to my fishing budget. So I should be fishing more than ever this year!

I got to admit the costs have curtailed my trips. Filling up the truck and the boat rids $100 plus from the coffers. Last year did many shore dunks, but it's not the same as tossing stuff toward the rocks.

I of course chose the crack head pimp, cause someday I will have a fleet of diry oars full of crack. But as it stands I don't fish enough now cause time is short, so no my fishing will not be slowed by gas prices.

Victor,
I haven't read that book but I've been doing some due diligence on a publicly-traded brothel in Australia.
High-margin businesss (gross margin is 50%) and very strong cash flows in spite of few depreciable assets. Recurring revenue base (it's a service business). It would be perfect were it not for the limited per-customer service capacity. This is not really a scalable business, nor can it be really global, given all these silly regulations that differ by country. Of course, collective bargaining by employees is always a downside risk.
Unfortunately, this is a discretionary spending category for the consumer. All else equal, high petrol prices means fewer, um, "transactions."

I will, but will focus on going when the tide and time are optimal. Look at my records, see the moon stages and then determine, with what little experience I have as to when the best "window of opportunity" is, then go.

Good post:
I didn't post b/c I think what is missing is the idea of cutting back of drving longer distances to go fishing, but not necessarliy cutting back on fishing generally.
