Well done Sandman!! I'm sure your boy will be a boater and what he's learned and will continure to learn is priceless info when you turn the key (or pull the cord) and the motor won't start. He'll know the basics and most problems are just that 'basic' when you know where to look.

Fishsmith, that was really the point, every boater knows until you have some hands-on experience with engines you really can't figure out how it works or what could the problem be no less fix it at sea.
My wife said why not just get a new one? (when she saw the entire motor in parts soaking in degreaser. I said half the reason you do this is to let him get "into" it and understand how this works. I know a new little 4 stroke would be better set up but this thing has character and will look great on my restored 1964 Dyer Dhow. A kid have have a lot of fun with a gallon of gas with a dingy in a salt pond.
