At under $50 on ebay the Daiwa Laguna 4000 isn't a bad choice. Aluminum body and spool, great drag, bail doesn't close when casting , light weight, good capacity, if it only had a waterproof drag it would be great!
i have a stradic 4000 on an 8 ft st croix. It is still fairly smooth after 2 seasons of use, but I would more than likely go with a spheros rather than a stradic if I were to do it again. I used a sheros 8000 on my 10 ft stick, and it held up alot better than my stradic, and it got more use.
we have been fishing the okuma vs 40 for two years and so you know we shore guide and charter these reels have taken a lot of abuse and we are still using them this year . capt.bill
