As someone who has a spear gun and has spear fished in other locals around the world, i think it is just as hard as fishing and agree with Bryan that it is probably more eco friendly. I've swam with stripers off RI and not felt the urge to kill them just watch. With a rod, you drag them in by their lip wear them out and hurt them even if you release them.

You should see what the guys pull up in australia. Big tuna in shark infested waters... that takes balls!
