Unhappy rod tips

How are replacement rod tips measured? I know that they are numbered....4,41/2.,5, etc. Are they measured in hundreths or thousanths. Is this measured at the tip, or a little lower, where the guide ends? Thank you.

64th's is the samllest I have seen. You can buy a small measuring device from Merrick's of a rod building retailer that is easy to use formeasuring the tip.

Standard measurement is in 64ths of an inch. When someone says a rod has a "size 9" tip, it means it's a 9/64" tip.
