don't know if its "right" but it sounds like it should work

i personally might go a little bigger on the hook..

I'm not much of a chunker, but the few times I've done it with braid I've found that braid tangles in rocks more than mono. Anybody else have this happen? Probably wouldn't if you keep the line up off the bottom, but I was busy plugging with another rod.

I agree, Mono all the way when tossing chunks especially in the Canal. The stretch makes a world of difference when against the rough bottom. Then again you do feel fearless when using the braid but thats alot of money clinging to each lobster trap. To each their own I guess!
