Blues can also be much pickier at night. Not the indiscriminate eaters that they can be during the day. Slow down your flies and lures after dark.

Stripers do not like bright light, and will seek the deeper water during the day. They will feed during the day, but are much more active at night.
Blues are more of a day feeder, due to their "palegic" nature.
They will feed at night, but are better suited for day feeding.
Correction: Most LARGER predators hunt more actively at night because darkness enhances their ability to ambush their prey. They will feed during the day, but the food HAS to be present and easy to get, otherwise they may not expend the energy chasing potential food.
As I tell people when they give me "the look" when I state that I PREFER to fish at night: "It's when the Big Girls come out and play!" They then ask what I mean, and I explain that larger predators are more inclined to feed more freely at night because the tables are now turned in their favor.

all the biggest blues ive ever caught were at night, most on topwater or needles, and i mean big and aggresive, had one night last season where all the blues were 14 to 17lbs, was awesome and scary landing big blues 30 yards from shore in my wetsuit in waist deep water.
i think theyre around all the time just most people target bass at night.
