I don't think traffic will be any worse in the surrounding towns than when King Richards fair is in town. And yes I have lived in gambling towns.

As far as old town charm and that kind of stuff goes; well it is 2007 and this is MASS. Most towns are running budget deficits now and that isn't going to change in the forseeable future. I believe this casino will help Middleboro.

I see both sides of the argument, I have 2 young kids and if lived in Middleboro, I'd try and move. On the flip you see a town like Stoneham almost cut all sports/music because of no funds, hopefully Middleboro would never face this with the new $$ a casino will bring. But with high roller gambling comes, drugs, hookers and violence, agreed they're their now, but the numbers will surely go up.

Sorry Mike but i voted no, and my wife and I will be voting no on the 28th if the town really holds an election for this issue. I don't see the benefit for the town, I see more bad than good. Long term it looks like the wrong decision. The town has more important issues, a casino will not be the answer to our budget shortages. Maybe I should apply as town manager, I couldn't be any worse than the last guy

if they get federal permission and state permission, wouldn't they still need to pass thru the building dept. in town? The towns people should have a say in this matter.

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

I'm not sure they would need to. Like swimmer pointed out; once they are a "soveriegn nation". Almost anything goes.

Even if Middleboro votes NO the tribe can still build a casino there. The NO vote won't stop that as they will eventually get what they want once a "soveriegn nation". A NO vote will mean everything the tribe is offering goes out the window and the town will only get a pittance of the deal.
It is kind of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" for the NO voters.

A yes vote will just make it easier for the tribe to go for a full gaming license. They could open a bingo hall now and eventually go up from there with no town approval. So comes back to "damned if ya do and ....

From what I hear the backer is very liquid financially. And he is backing the tribe to the hilt. Supposedly he is 5 Bil. liquid.

soveriegn nation or not, if they do this, they will own the town, they will outnumber us all and be able to control town meetings in the future and have free reign
I don't see how a casino adds anything at all to the economy of Mass., it seems like just moving money around, mostly out of the pockets of those who can't afford it similar to the state lottery, but the state lottery puts many more times back into the communities than any casino does, the casino profits go to the investors and the tribe I guess. I wonder if people who are part wompanoag can get part of the rewards or if you have to be 100%

fishbones makes a good point

Mike, like I said to you before, it's great that you might be able to personally be able to benefit because of your business, but the townspeople will have to put up with the negatives.
They are moving too fast, they want us to jump at this chance and that raises my suspicion level by them pretty much demanding a decision. The whole issue is a cluster

I wonder where the indians get all the money ,, The savy to know, how these places run ? Amazing beads and blankets to this .. I always wonder if they are not just being used as a front . You can still get football cards ..
