I agree with johnR.. tica makes a great lower priced rod. In my opinion the ugly sticks are too soft. Ticas are nice and stiff.

#^&#^&#^&#^&'s has a 9' and a 10' surf casting rod and reel combo, both great for the price... I think 89$ cork handle... a good start. the 9' will probably be a better all around rod... the 10' can cast a lot farther, but can be a bit iring when making many cast with lighter plugs... the 10' is great for throwing bait and a 3 oz sinker with 20lb mono line. Youre where I was 3 years ago, and I still use the 10' okuma...

im in search of my first striper and feel this is the best way to go about it and to keep catching them, ive caught a bunch of blues but never a striper
