It blew

As did June and most of May.

Seriously, I can't remember a season so piss-poor in the Canal. Not even when bass were in the crapper.

Long time lurker first post.......

I agree with above regarding blue fish.

I've lightened up my tackle considerably. I fish a 9' MH St Croix Avid and Quantum Cabo 40 with 20lb braid and it has changed my whole opinion of summer fishing.

I fish places with a fair amount of people bait fishing. While they are all bait fishing the bottom i'll drag lures across the surface targeting bluefish. Catching small blue fish on this set up is actually a lot of fun, especially if they jump out of the water which is fairly common.

I am however constantly watching the the rods in spikes up and down the beach. The first sign I see of stripers I switch over to soft plastics and have had moderate success, again no large fish that I see posted here but with the lighter tackle it is "almost" as fun.

Good Luck to all and remember July is almost over ..... False Albacore soon.

A continuation of June--- POOR --- at least in the surf and where I'm fishing. I've never seen anything like it.

I've made ten trips to SoCo this july. I have done well with bass. But what is surprising to me, is that I have not taken one blue fish. Now that is different!

Be encouraging, not discouraging
