Interactive - checking out the growth rings on the scales?

how about the striped bass and its life cycle? so many topics you can touch base on. Migratory routes, spawning, diet (declines of baitfish and their effects), research they "glory days" of striper fishing through the maratorium to the rebuilding of good striper numbers through conservation? Striper culture and the following they have here in the northeast to the outer banks of N.C.? How the Natives used the striper to sustain life as well as the effect it has on todays ecomony?

Striper knowledge is all around you....go for it! learn something new in your research and share it with others! Have fun with it and it will hardly feel like a "project" at all!

Simplify.......

Salinity (salt) content of the water from several locations. Fill jars of salt water (example 1000cc), boil water, screen (mesh) the sand from the salt and measure the weight (grams) of total salt crystals for each location, etc., etc.,etc

I think your teacher is going to expect an experiment. The paintball idea has some potential. As far as fishing related ... some ideas....

If you can get your hands on a seine net, compare the amount of bait in two different areas (ex. a beach vs a marsh, or the outlet of an estuary or marsh compared to the marsh itself). Or in a particular spot at different tides.

Compare the populations of worms in the sediment in a sandy beach vs a mud flat. Or clams... There are lots of cool creatures in the sediment and you could learn alot while still keeping the project relatively simple.

Compare the populations of crabs in a rocky area to a sandy area.

You get the idea... if you need anything in particular, feel free to pm me. 8th grade science fair is basically what I do for a living

No, no, no. we’re 30… 30, three zero.
