Eben........That Flaptail { Bernie Calitri } is the correct bait for the box.......Also that Pt. Jude { Surf Slapper } is the correct bait for the box, "Very Nice Combo".........Calitri was a well known striped bass fishermen in the 1940's, as was Jerry Sylvester, Ray Tucker, etc....as far as I know Bernie endorsed Striper-Experts { early Pt. Jude } and Pt. Jude Lures as a field tester. Don't take this as gospel... But, I also believe he may have worked for Pt. Jude manufacturing and painting lures. He then left at some point and then started Cal-Kay................

Hell I was going by your web-page ....lol

The surf flapper has a diff tail on it ?? And looks just like a Emmerson (same colors)

And the other one looks just like a B,Myer plug right down to the flaptail.

You just can never tell unless you have it in your hand and check the hardware

Mine do. Or, at least I think they do.

Peter, you are right it does get confusing, it confuses me everyday, not that its hard to get me confused........ The Cal-Kay is bigger than a Bernie Myers..... Pt. Jude used a couple of differant hangers for their flaptails......Eben could you post a better pic. of the flaptail [ so called, Pt Jude ] I really cant see the head so well........ Before I stick my foot in my mouth..........

Well I have the same lure, exact!!!!!!!!! I put it with my Emmerson collection.
So , Maybe I am wrong. I have 2 of them!
As for the Box Bernard Calitri,he was the 1945 striped bass Champion and endorsed Point Jude Baits! With his name on the box, So Tom is correct .

Champion of what is the question? The Martha's Vineyard derby started a year later. It was not the r.j schaefer derby I do not think ??? That was based on local clubs. Not just one person
So to make a long story short, Nice Find Eben ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>

Eben, hate to say it but it could be either a Pt. Jude or an Emmerson & Ruhren.... I don't remember if anyone I know has one in the correct box, I'll have to ask around.....we need to find a few in boxes I guess to be certain.....
The Facts:

1] the wire in the front is tied just like a Pt. Jude, not a Ruhren

2] the flaptail is attached like some Pt. Jude baits

3] the body looks like a Ruhren

4] the paint job looks like Pt. Jude [ later model colors ], or Emmerson & Ruhren, or even SO-CO...... they all had very similar paint jobs.

Well, whatever that bait is........ it sure is nice........ the other Calitri bait and box are correct.......Good Luck & Thanks For Showing Them
