U know whats funny is we have the same thing going on right now in NJ.
Same size fish.U would be surprised how many times things run the concurrently.
Same type thing also.Every one with a fish pole comes out of the wood work.

For the very same reasons that I won't fish The Ditch, PI Beach, SOCO Bways, and why 99.9% of my fishing is done from 0300 to first light at "Korkers Required" spots that usually follow at least a 1/4 mile trek..............................

Primarily, in my view, what is the thrill behind catching dinks? You are only risking damaging yer future COW, and possibly killing your grandson's Trophy. Sorry but, I MOVE when it's schoolies every cast and I don't seem to be raising the BIG mommas that may or may not be amongst the rats.

Secondly, I never will understand the pursuit of big or little fish with light tackle. What, is it some sort of machismo BS? "Hey look at me, I landed this '20# MONSTER' on 12# test and no shock leader!!". Translation: "Hey look at me, I'm the insecure idiot increasing the release mortality rate and bringing a fish close to exhaustion, that I'll prolly just toss back into the surf with no concern for its well being after." Mommalukes, and a definite scar on the face of recreational/pro fishing.

I'm not advocating bringing a sizeable fish in GREEN, just never was one for increasing the playing time in the perceived interest of the extended fight somehow making someone a "better" angler for doing so. The TRUE sportsman will, if not keeping, C&R in due time and send schoolie and trophy alike on their revived and no worse for the battle ways, imho.

Lastly, the solitude ~or a group of 4 to 5, max, feeshin' buddies~ is my idea of the quintessential Striper Coast experience. There is just somethin' that ties one into the historic past and the majestic present when settting-up on an above average sized Linesider whilest out upon that infrequent and hard earned perch. Whether she be fooled by plug, eel, chunk, tin, or jig the fooling of our elusive quarry and the finding of her maw is what calls me to the surf each night. And besting the BIG GURLS is what makes all the homework, the miles, and the moons ~ALL, well worth their while. Besides to me, the Hunt is just as much a part of the fight and equally as rewarding as the successful release of our vaunted prey.

Very tough for me to stomach the mistreatment of our beloved species and I'd prolly be the one screaming at the newbs running up and down the beach and properly releasing the stripers while dodging all the googanity. Never have been one for shoulder to shoulder "fishing", if you could call it that.

I was at that fiasco, although on the other side of the bway. Went to the end of the jetty caught one rat, 14" and headed back to the truck. That kind of fishing is fun for me in the spring for about an hour. When im packing the steelhead rod, not a lot of fun with a 1208.

A few more guys like you can make all the difference,although you may want to keep the screaming to a minimumI find people very receptive and appreciative that i took a minute to help them out.Some of you "leveled","geared up" fashion consious elitists my want to give it a try

Most of what I said in the paragraph you highlighted was tongue in cheek, bro.

I would attempt to approach the fish tossers/kickers, "I doan have to get my feet wet, do I", HACKS with some level of respect. Pretty hard to respect those who have no respect for themslves as witnessed by their lack of respect for Sir Stripey.

Iffin ya don't want to gear up sose you can release fish properly and unharmed, then stay out of tha SURF!!! Either that or GET WET!! It's only saltwater for CRIPES SAKE!!! That's not elitist my mang, that's just the way it is. I could care less if any of the googs feelings get hurt, what about Morone Saxatilus ??

I won't do that type of scene either. I don't do the dink scene as a primary target. I just don't get a thrill from small fish.

My suggestion that you may want to rethink the "screaming" thing wasn't to spare their feelings,it was to save you from a trip to the dentist for a denture fitting.It's easy to scream at someone on a computer but not so in the real world(online i'm 10 feet tall,the real world only 6'2") My other comments were more an attempt at getting more responses to the REAL problem with that pic,not the ugly sticks and sneakers but the fact that if we don't do something to get these people on board with proper C&R techniques the lean years of the past being revisited is a real possibility.
