tight moving shifter unit?
Does anyone know how to lubricate a Johnson shifter unit? It has been getting progressively worse all season and would like to lube it prior to boat nap.

Is it the shifter or cables?? If its the shifter just get the thing apart and spray lithium grease in there.
If its the cables, you might have to pull and inspect it. If its ripped somewhere along the length and its corroding it will just get worse, and could fail (just image how that could turn out)
I know they run cable in a torturous route in CCs. At least you can get a good look at it, deal with the whole thing and lube it well. I'd use lithum grease.
Good Luck

Like Van said ck to make sure its the shifter and not the cables. Just disconect the cables and move shifter, if its still stiff take apart and lube well, if its cables, I know it is a pain, but remove and replace, will save a ton of time and problems later!! Cables are cheap, its the pain to replace.

Bill I just replaced mine this month. Not so bad. I had a cable snap. so I replaced it. Easy fix. Before you pull the cable if they go through a pipe tie a snkae to it so you can pull the new cable through or you will be swearing by days end.
