I could really use some help and knowllege.
All right those of you who have been out the last week or so fishing the charlestown to westerly area no were im talking about.I went out a couple of times last week and a buddie went out today this area has been loaded with baby bunker and birds diving but no bass with them not even a swirl.Myself and others have spent hours casting everything except bait in and around this area still nothing.I always have been tought that if there is bait around there is bass around no matter the temp or conditions. Now im starting to think the bunker may holdover and not migrate, is this true in your opinion.Or maybe the bass all headed south with the bigger bait or out in deep water it just doesnt make sense to me.And what about all this herring im used to seing this time of year I haven't seen them. What do you think is going on I meen some of you guys have been at this alot longer then I have.
Someone must have some insight into this?

I would say it's just too damn cold for them. You could target holdovers this time of year in the rivers and maybe by a powerplant, something like that. You're not likely to find big schools chasing bait, unfortunately (or I would join ya)...'Course, you never know

I hate to be judgemental but what the hell is this obsession with chasing fish in December???
IT"S OVER!!!!!
Go chase holdovers in the rivers and powerplants. The majority of the fish have left the surf in SoCo or MA.
IT's OVER!!!!
I'm sorry. It is just making me crazy seeing the same posts from the same guys saying the same thing. "There was loads of bait and birds diving but no fish." Well, if there is loads of bait, there will be birds diving. That's what they EAT!!!
Read a few books on Bass and you will find out that:
1) Bass are phototropic. They respond in direct correlation to the amount of daylight available. The little clock in their little brain say "Not as much daylight, time to go South".
2) Bass are temperature sensitive. When the water temp drops below 50 degrees the majority of the fish leave. There maybe a small pod or a stray still lagging behind but for the most part 50 degrees in the magic number. that's why the crew that fishes the West Wall in the Spring wait for 50 degree water on a SW wind in the afternoon.

The last good fish I got was on 10/28. I fished one night after that for the skunk and that was it for me. Yes, a couple good fish were taken after that, but it was 95% done by November 1 for large in most of Mass and RI. It always is. The hard core regulars will still eek out a few late season big fish, but my sweet spot is May 15 through Nov. 1.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind
