I once read a post from Al B. where he said the best hook was the XX version of the Mustad, which I have never been able to find. I guess there was a limited run at one time.

I don't like the Gamis because they rust. I've actually had them rust during a fishing trip. They're also very soft - the easiest open eye to close.

Which leaves the Mustad XXX for me. The 7/0 is actually not to thick, but I use 9/0 for rigged eels and they are made from extremely heavy wire. I think it's safe to say they aren't going to break over a striped bass.

Check out the Owner Stinger Siwash Hook. Expensive, but perhaps the best hook option. Scary sharp, black coating is very rust resistant and super strong. But they cost about $8 for 3 or 4 hooks.
