War & Peace

How many here have actually read this book .. ?? I was thinking of putting it on the list .. "Things I do before I croak" . I don't want to miss out on anything .. On the list ? towards the bottom maybe with 99 . Climbing Mt. Everest ...

your 100% right Karl ... all books come as tapes or cd's ,, right ? just be a matter of staying awake while driving .. Pull up to a traffic light with the Bible blasting on the system Matt ..

I started to years ago. It was slow moving and lots of long Russian names and I started to get confused on who was who after awhile.

Long and boring frankly. Not worth the effort. I read it about 12-15 years ago and feel like I could have better spent that time.

I second the Count of Monte Cristo suggestion. excellent

try Ivanhoe. This is probably my favorite of all time.

If you're going to invest that much time on a project maybe you should read everything you can find on The Civil War,especially books by Bruce Catton. Then when you're done you're an expert on the subject.I spent months engrossed in TCW.It was amazing.

I like civil war stuff.. I saw on the History channel when the war ended they turned the cannons on the streets of New York .. Because of all the Gang Violence .. I thought "Gangs of New York" was just a movie .. I hope that never happens with the Ditch Trolls ..

Reading the Bible and thinking your going to understand it as a story is not being rational. Yeah I think everyone should read it but don't think for once you will understand it. If you where to take 10 people the firstest had the lowest ability to read and the 10th had the highest IQ they would both get the same message even if the first person read only what he could understand. I know this in the example of the first person in my immediate family and you go back two or more generations with the fewer schooling people had and you get the same results. People have devoted their entire lives to studying the Bible still knowone can fully understand the mystery. One of the best books IMO is by C.S Lewis 'Mere Christianity'. Lewis was an atheist with an incredible intellect. His book was written 1952 and still one of the best...if your like me I gotta read things two or three times before it sinks in. I highly recommend The Message version of the Bible if your gonna read and I hope you do.

Try Ulysses

I have read Ulysses, the number one reard book in the entire world three times and still haven't digested it all. Started and stopped probably five times before I pushed myself through the whole book. Try this on for winter reading.
