I used to do that with my mom's pass all the time in highschool until I got caught
People have them for a variety of reasons and I believe some can be temporary. Although if I had one and didn't really need it any more I can't see using it. Pretty lame...

Its working for them .. One of the guys has a second home ,, a vacation home,, he got from suing everyone he could . Yup scumbags ,, and they seem to be out numbering us .. If you use a handicap placard that is issued to someone else, like you borrow grandma's ride, and park in a handicap spot without the person being in the vehicle that the placard is issued too you, if caught, will lose your license for six months. The fine is hefty also. But the fine can always be cwof by a lenient judge, but the loss of license is a registry action that cannot be reversed by a judge. I believe all of the placards now are issued with a picture of the person it is issued to on the reverse side of the placard. Also the placard can be confiscated and the person it was issued to can be made to apply for a new one.

Swimmer is correct
It is ILLEAGAL if the handicapped person is NOT in the car and they park in a handicapped spot.

my buddy lost a leg in an accident and wears a prostetic leg and when he walks you would never know it . I have been with him many times when he has been confronted . not all disabilities are realted to legs . you know I can use one I have heart issues ( I dont consider it ) and my doctor asked if I wanted one . No Im not disabled I said .
A lot of people have them for family members and take advantage . I believe people that take advantage should be hobbled .

If I see a car with a placard then there is nothing i can say or do. Like some said here, it may not be that obvious a handicap.
BUT.....
When i see a car in that spot with no placard or HP plate, and if I see them, they get an earful from me that would make some people blush. I just can't stand that crap..I have to take my mother around some weekends and I use/we her placard where we go. If some D-bag is taking a spot without a placard; man do I see red !!!

BF i disagree wholeheartedly with that statement because certain maladies are essentially invisable...and the biggy is arthritus because it affects the joints and makes it excruciating to ambulate ...
all the pain medication being sold today can only put a dent in the pain and render it a little more tolerable but it doesn't totally stop it...
as time continues to march on eventually that same person who wasn't in a wheel chair ends up in one after their joints literally disintegrate....and if you were to yank their pant's down you wont see anything visibly wrong.
the registry of motor vehicles doesn't hand these placards out like candy.
A doctor has to determine your level of disability as reported by specialists who have done many examinations, xrays, mri's and endurance tests on their patients and they basically determine who is qualified to have one.
Have some people sweet talked their doctors into getting them one for a non serious problem....
i'd say yes... but they are periodically reviewed ...
