i want to build one and was looking for some ideas.
i did go out and get a motor today so now just want to see some of the great ways you guys came up with .

Here's a pic of my spinner, I just built it Saturday, and ran one batch of plugs through it. I am generally a cheap bastard, and I've been looking since last winter for a gearmotor to run the thing, but finally, I had plugs painted and it was time to etex them and so I went to Homies and bought a Charmglow grille rotisserie kit, and used the motor, brackets, and skewer pieces, and bought some springs and screweyes to finish it. It turns nice and slow, and is very quiet.



About $60 all told, l'm a cheap bastard till I need something, then I go get it.

Here's mine. Cheap walmart rotisserie maounted inside a plastic storage bin. Helps keep the finish cleaner. Close up shots of the mounting holes. Large washers for extra support. The center axis is unscrewed a bit. Will tighten before nex batch.

Two 40 watt light bulbs control heat and light, I use this to warm up the bottles of epoxy prior to mixing, one is switched with the 12 RPM gear motor, the other is independant of the gear motor, all shafts are driven by 1/5 pitch gear motor pulleys and belts, sized like to retain the RPM speed of the motor..

After trying many different swivels, I have settled on large comercial swivels, (the ones used on Tuna hand lines) I've tried numerous ones, these have 3 season on them without failure, I store them in a jar of 20 WT motor oil in the off season to keep them running smoothly..

Adjustment is achieved by a length of 3/8 treaded rod threaded through threaded plates ( "C" ring plates, bought from plumbing or electrical supply housed) the end of the shaft has been tapped and a 10/32 eye bolt is loc-tighted threaded in place... linkage is supplied by different lengths of jack chain , I keep brass wire on hand to make odd sized links for plugs like dartes or hand carved that dont have the clearance for a ful link of jack chain...

At the time I made it, we had 3 dogs, a cat and a kid runnin' around the house. No matter how often we vacuumed the carpets, I would always get a stray dog hair in my finish
Sealing the whole works in a rubbermaid tub was born of necessity. It has served me well for 5 years now

Crap. Now I feel inadequate. At least I'm better than Flap. He's got a Polish spinner. He uses Devcon and does somersaults in his yard until it dries.

big fish i have an extra spinner if you want it its yours i believe all you need is some springs . stop by this weekend and pick it up if you want. i think it holds 15-20 plugs.

Wow, don't even want to show my humble piece of redneck engineering. I used two pieces of 2x4, a rod dryer motor and a coat hanger, for the low low price of $8.50 I can spin four plugs at a time. But, that works out as Shannon and I only build a few here and there and don't need to dry 40 at a time.

I don't use a spinner - don't need it with the epoxy I use - have to do small batches cause it bangs quicker then Envirotex.

I just ordered a few sprayable epoxies - can't wait to get these

Mine poubles a a heat box, for warming the epoxy and it aids in painting by keeping the plugs warm... especialy helpfull when spraying pearlized paints...

Having doors on it keeps unwanted hitch hikers off the plugs as well..

??? When using the spinners w/ springs and eyes, do you coat the plug then put it into the spinner? By the pictures it seems a pain to brush the epoxy on in the drying positions. I'm still using my rod dryer with welding rod kabob method. That too is a pain at times the rod slips and pligs stand still . I try to epoxy when I'm around to babysit the spinning. I do like to eye and spring method.

I've been that route, Now with the threaded rod I no longer have to deal with springs that stretch,sag and unwind or are not the proper length to keep the epoxy uniformly on the plug.... I have 6" of adjustment, can spin even odd shaped plugs like hand carved bunker /rattle traps and darters with narry a problem, the etex is pre heated in the box, it then pours like milk... mix thouroughly until it is gassing freely, the whole time I'm mixing ,the plugs have been in the spinner warming up, I can apply a paper thin coat of e-tex( most problems from e-tex use stem from to thick of a coating on the plug) with a 3/8"acid brush as the plugs spin, with lights at the top and bottom there are no shadows thus virtualy eliminating dry spots, once I've epoxied all six plugs, I go back and wipe any excess epoxy off of the tail and lips/heads with an acid brush and check for dry spots, I never even exhale or torch the plugs, I close the doors and set the timer for 3 hours and go work on something else, or got to bed...Handeling of the plugs is at a minimum so chances for contamination are nil....

Wow you guy build some nice spinners---I just threw together a one lunger and used a old rod wrapping motor from a project 15 years back. Works fine as I use the 2 part devcon and leave them on about 3 hrs with a 100 watt spot lamp helping with the drying--hang them up for 24 hrs and they are nice and hard. I like the springs, modification to mine upcoming
