heres the pics of my newest wrapper. still nothing fancy at all, but theres no more wobble and its smooth as glass when wrapping.

why do you guys use a "gear type" set-up (don't know what else to call it) as opposed to putting the chuck directly onto the motor?

All kidding aside, its a sway bar endlink for a GMC 1500.

I guess that this just seemed easier and for the fact that I didn't think to do it that way.

I also use them as leader keepers too. Works pretty good, imo.

Not many reconized it as a auto part- at least I knew it was part of the front end. Not bad for a electrical worker. Where the end link passes thru the wood is there a bearing or bushing or just a hole drilled in the wood block?

The hole is drilled into the wooden block. Then insert the metal spacer that comes with the endlink. Grease it up real good, then pass the bolt through and use as much or as few spacers as necessary. In order to keep the chuck in the right spot, I used a lock nut on the wooden side and a washer/nut combo on the inside of the chuck.

heres a pic of what you'll get from the autoparts store. the metal spacer in the middle of the assembly is what goes through the wood.

What blank is the rod built on?

Sorry for the delay. I just found your question. The blank was a Lumiglass 7ft 18-30lb 1-3oz. I built it fo Blues and stripers but I should have used something lighter. I just made one for my son that I cast today for the first time. It a American Tackle 7ft 12-25lb 1/4-1/2 oz. Much better cast. I think that will be my next rod and save the other for tuna.
