Pt. Jude ad in SWS 1958-3 -50's and a 61!
Check out this from Saltwater Sportsman ,April 1958 that DZ sent me. Lou Annen from Long Island ,between Oct. 1956 and June 1958 caught 56 ,59,56,and 61 lb stripers on a Pt Jude Flexmaster. He got them on the "Native Dancer" the next smaller one to the "King Cobra" which is the one I currently have in the lineup. Like the ad says "the terrific eel-like wiggle gets 'em!"

One of the most interesting ways to research fishing tackle is by going through old magazines and tackle catalogs. In this single 1958 issue of Salt Water Sportsman magazine where I found the Pt Jude Flexmaster ad there were 8 other advertisements for various tins and metal lures. I was amazed to see that Al's Goldfish Company (Indian Orchard, Mass) made a line of surf tins. There were also ad's for Pfluger Plugs, Murat's Mureel Plug (get one free with a custom rod order from Murat!), Rag Mops and Jiget Eels, Aero-Craft aluminum boats endorsed by Arnold Laine (complete with a photo of Laine with two cows). I'll try and scan/post some more images.

What do you think the prices in the 50's would relate to todays dollars? Was that an expensive lure back then or average?

I dunno but gas was about 25 cents a gallon then right? I am amazed that such a little lure took down al those giant fish. What a run!
