I would also recommend ETEC like Ronnie has. I had an Evinrude DFI which was the pre-ETEC engine under Bombardier, the company that bought out OMC when they failed. The DFI model I had was essentially an ETEC without the name on it, very similar engines, if not the same. It was a super engine for me. When I sold it, it had 600 hours on it and not hint of trouble.

Talk to Marty at Ship Shops, (508) 398-2256, for a engine quote on that model. He's very good on pricing and a good guy to deal with for repowers. Might be worth comparing dollar for dollar. Any cost difference will be easily saved in fuel bills alone.

Just an idea.

I think you can save thousands if you keep shopping around. a 90hp is very common motor, and it's a buyers market. I'll bet you can find quality 10 - 15yr old motor for <$2K. New Englands boating season is short, most motors spend time sitting not running.
(That being said, I would get a towing service with the saved $$, and remember, never throw the bait out until you're at the dock, nothing is worse than waiting for the towboat without bait. )

Good Luck.

you may have to change controls or gauges if you change motor brands. always something to take into consideration.

If money is a issue then keep looking! I have a friend that just bought a 2001 Merc 4 stroke 90 hp with 100 hours with all controls and tac for $2500

There are lots of deals out there!! I bought a 1989 Evinrude 225 HP looper for $800 with all control's and this thing is a dream! I have no problem taking the boat off shore with it.

But I know 3 guys that just bought E-Tec and love them!! And if I was to go new that would be the way to go!!
Just be sure were ever you go they know there stuff!! There have been more then a few E-Tec's blown up cause of dealer mess up during the install, they all have to be set up with a laptop and if not set right they will Blow, Good New E-Tec stands right by them and replaces the power heads fast!!

Good Luck!!
