that's pretty nice of you to offer info topwater tom. I would consider a 40 pound fish a real trophy, especially from the surf and even more so if you got it on an artificial. I would call anything in the 20lb range a "good fish" surf or boat.

I know I shouldn't say this, being irish and all....But Size Doesn't Matter.
One of my favorite catches was a 40" low 20 lbs fish that I got on one of my plugs, this little popper I had made. not my biggest, but it was a foggy morning (my Favorite weather to fish), the water was like glass and this fish just exploded on it. just a great Moment.
another of my favorite catches was only a 36" fish....but I hadn't done anything for weeks and decided to do things totally different. Packed my plug bag with plugs that I had never caught a single fish on and went out. Fished big surf, which at the time i wouldn't normally have done, and caught it. Another great Moment.
I think the memorable one are better than the Biggest ones...that's just me though. Granted that 1st 40 sure as hell will be memorable

I measure a good catch on how my arms feel afterwards nothing like trying to hold on to a freight train headed for England.

An attractive professional woman, at least seven years your junior, who is well-read, makes considerably more money than you, and is incapable of having children.

 Joe!
for me personally, anything that pulls some decent drag is a good fish for me. I love those "drag pullers"

Topwatertom should join the striper cup for us with all those 40lbers, take some pressure off the rest of us.
Kind of a strange way to start a thread up there...

I too fish Race Pt a lot. It's been tough pulling bigger fish past the seals from the surf the last few years. So, I am assuming you are fishing from a boat snapping wire, or dragging bait over the ledge with a yak. If you are pulling fish in that big from the surf consistantly, I'd love to meet up and fish with you. Maybe I've just been doing it wrong all these years. I'll be there most of the Summer and every weekend after the summer until Halloween.

Do you have any pics of those fine 40's? I'd also love to meet up with you and learn from a true master. I grew up fishing that area and am definitely not the caliber of fisherman you are if you are consistently catching 20 - 40 lbers from the surf.

It’s got to be at least 40.25# to be considered a good fish, so you're obviously doing somenthing wrong. Probably fishing with the "topwater" stuff too much. Try some sand eels or jigs.
|
It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind

Only 12, that explains it. Keep an eye out for a bald guy in a yellow kayak dragging a T&W behind him. Welcome aboard and good luck this year.

I'm just curious and not being a smart alec here. If you are jigging wire most of the time, why do you call yourself "topwatertom"? Wouldn't "wiresnappertom" be more appropriate?

Too funny! Good luck little man! Look for the other bald guy in the Avalanche. If you see me drifting out to sea on an upside-down kayak, please come by and pick me up before the Coast Guard gets me!
Later,
Rick
