Over here (as of this AM) diesel is 4.67, regular is 4.16. No question we will see 5 bucks. I was just watching the news and OPEC is EXPECTING to see 200 a barrel for crude and the price at the pump in the US to $10/gal within 2 years. I think if the tide does not turn on fuel prices we will see the end of pleasure power boating in the US as we know it. Not to mention the ripple effect thru the economy. You simply are not going to take tiny boats with small motors into the waters around here.

Just wait till the day you fill up and come back to the dock two days later to find you only have a half tank.
Its gonna get real ugly.

Estamated fuel cost

New boat.
5-7 gph @ cruise
should do 400+ hrs for the season !
Most likely going to be $5.00 + per gal for diesel

At least I know that i am saving $$$$ being in the YC marina.
16$/foot compared to 125+/foot x 21' is well over 2k savings.
That will buy a good amountof fuel..

Plus our gas is cheaper than most marinas that sell to the public. (which we don't) and my house is only 3-4 miles from my slip and i bought a smaller truck better mileage.

Even with all that....
It still hurts!!!!!!!!!!!!...

$16/ft ? You must pay a large "fee" There is no way they can make any money on $16/ft and quite frankly with the slip prices the way they are now it sounds like a bad business decision. How can they say in business? My rate this year is $165/ft and there is a waiting list behind me if I bail.

Between the slip, insurance, maintenance and fuel I'll be looking at 12K for the season. (excluding fishing gear and bait expense) for a 23' boat. I recall the day when you could buy a new boat this size for less than that. I am seriously thinking of mothballing or selling it and playing more golf and surf casting. Either that or picking up a larger boat in a distressed sale and doing some inshore chartering but I wonder that the market will be weak as there will be a million guys chartering to support their fishing habit and fewer charters willing to pay the going rate given the fuel costs.
I really enjoyed golf and I think it is time to dust off the Mizunos.

No Jim,, the membership fee is only about 225/Yr. even the big inboards pay only about 22/foot. But I've been working along with 20-30 other guys every weekend doing repairs, new docks. electrical, plumbing etc....So they get it back in FREE labor... Still I'm not complaining (only bragging !!!)

One of the best kept secrets around. and no new members being accepted....

Next stop...Venezuela

"Gasoline costs roughly the same to make no matter where in the world it's produced, according to John Felmy, chief economist for the American Petroleum Institute. The difference in retail costs, he said, is that some governments subsidize gas while others tax it heavily.
In many oil producing nations gas is absurdly cheap. In Venezuela it's 12 cents a gallon. In Saudi Arabia it's 45.
The governments there forego the money from selling that oil on the open market - instead using the money to make their people happy and encourage their nations' development."

I am going to look into retiring and fishing off venezuela in a big ass boat....SERIOUSLY.
