I was out working the schoolies and decided to try jigging up a few squid, filled a quarter of a bucket in about a hour or so, strange thing, it was the middle of the day.

There's NOTHING strange about that this time of year. Schools of this size are on a mission - unless you're fishing real skinny waters, I don't even think the tide affects them much. |

It is a big misunderstanding among fishermen that you need to have a coleman lantern at night catch squid. You can catch them all day long as long as you are over them. I have filled many a bucket with squid during the daytime for years.
