It's more about competition, gas prices, increasing costs, and the internet - which has essentially changed the notion of what truly constitutes a "niche" business. Providence Place Mall, the revitalization of Garden City, and the rise of Barrington and Bristol as shopping destinations took a lot of business away from the village.
