I had a similar problem with my 704 some time ago, turned out it was the 'rotor brake' was swollen with grease and oil and rubbing all the time. It's located on the main housing under the rotor. On a 710, it looks like a good sized o ring. The part # is 21B-710. Try the reel with it out and see if it changes anything, if it does, a new dry one should do the trick.

Sounds like you didnt put something back together right, the drag should have nothing to do with reeling in. Take it apart and see whats wrong. Or send it to me. I'll fix it.

The 711 doesn't have the part your referencing.F-18 I put it together the exact way it came apart.Whats your address I'll send it to you anyway .I tried loosening the rotor cup nut and just making it snuggly rather than as tight as I had it.I've also re-greased the drag washers. It works fine when not under a load so I'll have to go test it.Not sure I'll recheck the thrust washer before going.
