OK Kids... Don't try this at home.
Reason #458 why It's good to fish w/a partner. Would have sucked if soemone wasn't there to remove plug attached.

Ouch! Is the band-aid on your index finger unrelated, or did you just not learn your lesson the first time?

Not my hand... I did the unbuckling. ( I did bury one in the back of my hand over the winter. Partner had to be better and stick his on a fish.)
Nope. Full compliment of barbs.

I did that once last year (not that bad tho) and now if I fish plugs with multiple trebles I ALWAYS have a lip gripper on me to avoid it ever happening again. It just takes that one twich from the fish to bury a treble in your hand!

I have done that a few times but not a problem as all my barbs are crushed.Just grit teeth and pull and then that sigh of relief then make another cast.

Been there, my friend. Mine didn't hurt abit. 4X VMC treble. The Dr. in the emergency room, had dikes that couldn't cut it. They had to call someone from engineering to cut it with a Dremel.

Hang in there Jay. Hand should feel fine in a day or so and you'll be fishing at some point this weekend.
Been there myself. Gibb's 3 oz bottle plug 2 out of 3 sets of trebles found their way into my hand. 3 barbs in all, 1 through and through and 2 buried (which I pushed through so I cut). About a 12#er thrashing on the other end but enough to make me nearly white out. I was alone which really sucked. Released the fish, walked a couple hundred yards to my vehicle, cut the hooks with a set of lineman's, splashed on some hand sanitizer (that really hurt), walked back to the water and soaked my hand for a moment and fished another hour or so.
Later on the Dr. Feel Goods needed a shot or two of Yukon and a few Newcastles to help keep the hand from reminding me of what happened.

Why anyone does not crush thier barbs is beyond me. They penetrate better and if you are experienced playing any fish you won't lose them. Accident waiting to happen, as this clearly shows by not crunching the barbs.
All kinds of infections the longer that hook was imbedded never mind the tendon and nerve damage.

Why even try.........

i wish i hadnt seen that.
while removing some rusty hooks from a gibbs danny (no rings on them. grrr) the eye snapped and took a rusty hook to the finger. it's barely a wound and i thought that hurt like hell. been poked a billion times nothing ever got past the barb. i think the day one does and looks like that, i'll go into shock. cause i'm a sissy.

only time I had to have a doc remove a hook was very similar to that... walking up some rocks with rod and plug in hand.... slipped and landed on said hand holding plug.... had to drive to hospital with a 10 in. bomber attached... standard truck to boot.....
|
one more cast.....
don't forget to take your trash home
