Simplicity wise you may wish to look at Xubuntu,insanely simple interface.Highly watered down distro of Ubuntu. Kubuntu looks kinda like windows,the KDE interface is the closest thing to a windows desktop. In the end I would highly recommend straightup Ubuntu.Hardy Heron really does work.
