Its not about the plug so much as the bait. The sooner you see what the fish are on, the sooner you'll know what to reach for. I'm guessing the fish that were around you were on small sand eels or herring. An eel impression like a small olive bomber, deadly #^&#^&#^&#^& #1 long, or herring colored small swimmer might have done the trick. My #1 rule in fishing is match the hatch. My #2 rule in fishing is there are no rules in fishing.

During an intense frenzy or blitz, try tying on a Pogy Snagger, .......when the fish are in that thick, your chances of snagging one of them is pretty good. Not to mention, you'll probably snag them somewhere other than the head,,,and OH, what a different kind of fight that will be.
