Seeing this guy is a vetern angler you would think he would have a larger set up fishing eels? Not to question it, Just amazing to reel a fish like that in on a medium sized rod.
You really can't tell a hell of a lot about how ballsy a rod is when the guy's holding it up straight.
The reel looks to be a Penn Slammer 560 in the pictures I saw. You can get plenty of 50# braid on one of them. Tony Stetzko used a Penn 650, which isn't much bigger, for his 73. And he wasn't fishing 50# test line, either. McReynolds used a Penn 710 which is about the same size as a 560 Slammer.

Couldn't have happened to a better guy than Pete. He puts his time in and certainly gets his share. What people don't know is how generous he is, especially to the RISAA charities.
