crap Joe, you seem to go thru motors awfully quick
what happened?
1986 motor runs perfect!! Shifter stoped giving me reverse, so I had the rod welded , shift perfect!

Then while I had the shifter apart I decided to take the lower unit off and put new water pump cause it is week. Well could not get it off! jumped, hammered, twisted you name it we did it!
Then I found a rot hole in the mid section at the top, seal is gone were the motor and drive shaft go, and rusted and they rusted together and this is why they won't come apart.
Ok just bolt toghter till pump goes then figure it out.

NOw go to the water the motor no go over 2500 RPM??? Well to make a long story short the wire harness is so rotted on the motor that all! Wires are soft and poures and some cracked open under tape. All wires also are green and rotted.

So with all this going on I gave up on it! Motor is perfect, but the rest has given up!

So tomorrow the new to me Mercury goes on, that's right I am moving to the dark side!! Its a deal that I could not pass up!!

Thanks again all!!
