I was speaking in generalities..
I have not enjoyed the article yet as it usually arrives on Fridays for me in NJ..
I hope to glean a advantage..When it arrives..
I did read a interesting article in the NJ Fisherman.Fred Golafaro did a side by side casting distance comparison. The test was fairly complete using braid and 10' rods with the Fugi System guides vs the standard surf guides.Whatever they are..He also used 2 or 3 different reels. The Van Stall 250 vs the Zee Bass. The other reel I do not recall, maybe a Spheros...Only moderate distances where achieved with the Fugi system guides.Around 5%..The Van Stall out casted the ZB..by the same moderate difference..
It did not surprise me really. I primarily use a rod with them big wire frame guides..Only times I get out done is by lighter line. Most times..There are the freaks of nature like Slip..

FORE!
It's usually darkest just before it turns Black..
