Question

Pardon me for asking but shouldn't a tourney in John's memory be a surf classic using only Hab's plugs?

It may be he fished eels but his plugs made his reputation.

Seems kinda weird that it not be Hab's plugs only.

Sorry, not trying to mess up a good thing.

Maybe a Hab's plug caught category?

Why even try.........

Steve,
The organizers of this thing are up against a time constraint this year. Trying to keep it simple and not so big. When things are big you need a large staff to run it. I'm sure the format can (and will) be tweaked in the future to include special catagory's, divisions, etc.
Priority now is to remember John and raise some funding to finance a memorial in his honor.

What Dennis said.

Also, please feel free to re-read the opening post in this thread.

All of it, including the quote below.

Just to update you guys, Joe and I went over to the Blooberry Factory day before yesterday and spoke with Billie about the Awards Ceremony - it's a done deal, he's psyched about it. We're gonna have the whole bar and dining room area with the big-screen TV's. Phew, got another one taken care of. So it's on for the Coddington Brewing Company on Sunday, October 12th at 4:00 PM, cash bar and dine as you like off the menu. Go here for details and directions:

http://www.coddbrew.com/

Hey, it's starting to look like we're on a roll

I also spoke with a nutty surfcasting guy you all know - aw, hell, it's Crazy Alberto - and he's working on the posters for the tourney right now incorporating the portrait of John that he's done. He said they should be finished at some point over the weekend. I still can't figure out why they call him Crazy - I dunno, he seems perfectly normal to me The posters will be at the weigh stations and one will be posted online here at S-B - I can't wait to see what Alberto has come up with for the tournament.

Then early next week Joe and I are going to go and get the tickets printed so we'll be ready to rock for guys to start signing up for the tournament.

Let the games begin

Stay tuned for further developments - and don't touch that dial

Steve, I'm not sure if I'm the only one who will be in the tourney that actually does not own a Habs plug. And I know there aren't any to be given away or purchased at a reasonable price. That being said, I'll be throwing the one Habs, Jr I got.

All 3 shops now have tickets and pins

Ok it's all set. John has the online registration going and all 3 weigh in stations , Quonny Bait and Tackle, Edwards Fishing Tackle, and The Saltwater Edge have the tickets and the Habs pins. Registration will go till 4 pm Friday Oct 10th. at the shops.
Alrighty then! Go out there and have fun and know that you're part of a good cause......and while you're out there you might want to take a look up at the sky and remember John, and appreciate that our time is short here and we are very lucky be able to spend some of it fishing and meeting folks like John.

I entered yesterday. Let me tell you that the Habs Pin's alone are worth the entry fee. A must have for collectors of John's plugs and a great rememberence. The proceeds go to a great cause (in this case Hasbro) which is a must for any tourney that I enter. Even if you don't plan on fishing this event please consider entering - $15 well spent.

Will any of the shops change their hours or give short window for weigh in's? I think the Edge opens 11am on Sunday and the tourney ends at 9am.

great idea in theory. but it opens up too much speculation and he said / she said crap about who was using eels, etc. also, lots of people don't have habs plugs. lots of john's friends fish out of boats too.

i'm looking forward to this. got a house to stay at in middletown for the weekend (wife's aunt and uncle just headed to florida today). just hope i can get out of work in time on friday to make it down to the meet and greet.

Goose -

I'll talk to the shops involved as official weigh stations for the tourney - Edward's FISHING Tackle (Hey Kevin I won't call it 'BAIT & Tackle' anymore, okay), the SWE, Quonny and Quaker Lane to see what the hours are. I do know the hours at the Edge are like 10 to 4 on Sundays, though - Edwards isn't too far away, just down the road from the Coddington Brewing Co. and on Sundays I think Kevin opens at 6:00 AM -

Or you can give them a call to see yourself - I won't get a chance today, I'm outta here for work in an hour or so

Work, the curse of the fishing class...........

Hi Paul - I'm assuming you registered online here at S-B - so if you have a receipt of some sort via PayPal, just see Steve McKenna at QL to pick up your Habs pin - if ya have any problems, let me know, I'll give Steve a call on his cell so you can get it -
Thanks again

Thanks Crafty. I may try to get down there today.

See you over the weekend.

I am going to print up some sort of certificate for the prize I am donating and will drop it off to Steve.

One 4 hour fishing trip on my boat in the Spring when the menhaden show up in the Bay.

Since JohnR is handling the online registration, I'll let him chime in here -

I've been busy with the brick-and-mortar shop stuff so he'll need to let ya know on that.

Probably the best thing to do is PM him - thanks
