When you're hot, you're hot

Yes, I'm now Mike's official cheerleader/benchwarmer.
Some things can't be explained. Last night about 8 pm I hit the water loaded with elvers and all. The rain is coming down sideways, wind is a stiff 20kts as I make my way to a spot on the east coast. The plan is to hook up with Redlite around 9pm.
Things are quiet for the first hour as I probe the shoreline looking for signs of life. A red light appears in the distance and I know it will be only seconds before the gifted one appears and the bite starts. I was right.
St. Redlite appears and gives a hearty," Yoooooo! What's up buddy, any fish?"
"Nothing yet, its dead," I reply. A couple casts later I have a low 20# fish on the shore and its on.
As a good partner would do, I kindly hook up with a nice, fat 45" fish about 10 minutes later that put on a dsiplay I won't soon forget. Lots of thrashing on top and some serious drag given up. Fish was roughly low 30# class and I throw it back, looking for a bigger one. I reasoned right again.
We keep casting and have about 5 or 6 decent fish landed and released when I look to my left and Mike's rod doubles over as he starts screaming "SUPER COW!"
Mike beaches the fish and we both admire it. Figured it was high 30's. Every few minutes we check the fish out and it grows a little bigger so I get curious and put the tape on it and its 49". We wrap the fishing up around 11:30 and start heading back to the trucks. The fish is getting bigger with the long walk over sand. I run ahead of Mike so I can grab the camera for a few shots as we figure the fish is low 40's.
Long story short we get a few pics and throw the fish on a digital scale. It reads 46# and some ounces..
What else can I say, when you're hot, you're hot.

Apparently Redlite Mike has the same horseshoe firmly implanted in his rectum that Iron Mike used to have

Just kidding - I know the only thing that leads to that kind of success is a lot of hard work and sheer determination.

Never seen pure bull**** land a good fish yet.

Way to go Mike

I am not worthy, my outing yesterday in the bay yielded only a more empty fuel tank and jarred bodies after driving through 3' chop back to the ramp

(I posted this on another thread..It seemed fitting here also)

I bow to the Fish King..I am not worthy...
How much for the lucky Visor???
5 yrs ago I seemed to be able to land better fish than the average skilled caster..My friend said I had big fish luck.I had to agree it was unexplainable.Fishing with couterparts of equal or better skills the better fish just took my line.
He called me the idiot savant of bass fishing..
Mike Blows this whole perspective way out of the water..
His five fish total will crest 230 lbs.Thats a 46 lb average..
His average for five fish is better than my personal best..
Unf'nbelieveable...
Way to go...

Last night was cool. We talked about the last several seasons and the "bridesmaid" funk Mike was in for too long. "What comes around goes around." was my reply. The guy has always looked out for the welfare of his buddies. This year he's getting paid dividends for his years of goodwill and hard work.

I believe in Karma. We all go thru a funk now and then.I would recant mine but I am afraid to make mention of it.Like the golfer who gets the shanks won't say the "S" word..
You guys seem to be having a great time with this whole thing..
I am jealous...of the fun..Although I have to say I am enjoying it through the picture in this tire hub..
Thanks..

Thats what fishing with friends is all about..
I honestly have to say I would have been just as happy if either one of you two got the fish I did that night. On the other end of the spectrum.I have seen guys thro coniptions when that happens...
It was never like that for me.I'm just happy to get out there if something good happens it makes it all the much better..
It's just like those who are happy drunks and angry drunks..
I know this..There will be a day when I can't do all the things I can now. It's already getting hard..I'm truely greatfull for the opportunity to enjoy the road my life has taken.Fishing is a big part of that route..
I am sure the memories will hold me over..
Looks like Mr.Redlite is building em up big time...
Gotta go now..
I'm off to Montauk to hopefully to make some new memories..

Jeezus! NIB a philosopher? Amazing what a 40 will do for you. Hate to think what will happen if he gets a 60. Might start wearing a pink angel suit and shooting little arrows at couples in the park.

You got it all wrong.,You did do a good job of keeping true to your name..
It ain't about the size of the fish.Sure larger fish are the ultimate quarry. How does one excactly target them.I have read tons of books an articles no one can really tell Me,Someone who Has a clue, how to do that..You could some all the knowledge up into one line ..Use bigger hooks..
If catching giants only is what the sport of fishing means to anyone, you should probably do something else..Cause your gonna be miserable..
I know what it is..You just wanna see me in pink tights..
Be careful if it happens tho.. I happen to be good at darts..

Atta boy! This touchy feely stuff was getting me all nervous and sweaty. By the way, you'd probably look good in pink tights......as long as you didn't have the beer shiits. Now what were we talking about? Memories? Ya think they'll be great, but then your mind goes soft and next thing you know you end up in front of the TV, wearing a diaper, and watching the same show (in your case maybe last year's Superbowl ) over and over, wondering how it will end . Of course in my case they'll probably just zip me up in my wetsuit, open an air freshner, and give me a plug to drool on. See ya then.

Sorry to digress. Impressive body of work, Mike.
