I've hit the right wknds this fall, I guess. Good two wks ago and this wknd, while not stellar some small bass, some decent blues and a 25# bass and 14# blue one morning. Did'nt even have to commit any sacreligeous acts.

Going back into the surf this Fall in RI has reminded me why I bought a boat. What a miserable Fall run. If it wasn't for the Canal I would be depressed but I have done decent for a newbie in "The Ditch".
While on the subject, I must say that I have been humbled by that stretch of water. 40 years chasing bass and a month working the Ditch has convinced me that I don't know squat. Especially when Tony O amd Mike L are slamming muliple 30# fish night in and night out. My objective for next Fall is to start earlier and learn the secrets of the Canal.

What Piemma said
So far this Fall I've done squat - I couldn't hit a cow in the a$$ with a bullrake, the way it's been going.
Been to the best spots at the right times...nothin'
Zero, zilch, nonca, nada...
My mojo's busted, I think, whatever I had of it - ya know, Habs used to call me up and say "Hey Crappy - Crappy Angler - it's Habs!"
I dunno - maybe he was on to something
Beats me...but I ain't quitting yet....it's not over til I say it's over...but it's 4th quarter and I'm down by 20.
We'll see, I guess

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

Lots of fish in all the south county spots. Not always showing, not always eating and not always within casting distance of shore. It's going to be a late, late season.

That statement says it all, Mike. I think its the same in the spring too. Seems like all hell suddenly breaks loose all over right about the same time every spring. Its like the fish are in place, but don't always cooperate with us shore guys.
This fall seemed the same with large fish. North Shore of Mass, Canal, and RI seemed to explode about the third week of September, then it all slowed down.
Obviously still fish around, but will we catch them/see them from the shore is another question.
I still think the big numbers of big fish are mostly gone though.

It's not the bait
At the end of your line
It's the fishing hole
Where all the fish is blind
